I have been a police officer in Alabama for almost 24 years. I have been telling myself Im going to quit everyday, but I have been saying that for about 15 years now. My first year I was just glad to be there. Im still hanging in it for some unknown reason. a little over a year to go and I will retire and start doing something else.
Please read a article I wrote during my first few years as a police officer I call "Who We Are" to take a peek into the life of real Law Enforcement Officers.
Two other articles well worth reading are Me A Lousy Cop. Author Unknown, and also The Perfect Cop author unknown.
I became a cop full time in May 3rd of 1989 and graduated from Northeast Alabama Police Academy at Jacksonville State University
in Jacksonville Alabama in March of 1990.
Before joining the Police Dept. full time, I was a reserve officer for about 14 months.
I have had 6 Goldwings, 1 Honda Magna 750, 1 Honda Shadow 600, 2 Suzuki 800 Intruders and 1 Honda Ace 1100 Tourer in the past 6 years. Yeah buddy, I love motorcycles! In the past 10 years, I have rode well over 380.000 miles. NO KIDDING!
My motorcycle riding all started when my dad bought me my first one. A Yamaha 60. My dad taught me how to ride, change gears and use the clutch. I had a blast with that thing! Thanks dad for teaching me how to ride!
My next one would be when I turned 14 years old. It was a Suzuki 185 that my mom bought for me. It gave me freedom! I would ride it to school even if the temps were below freezing!
We moved to Beaumont Texas and took the bike along hooked on the back of a U-Haul truck. I think I rode that thing all over Beaumont. One night while coming home from my girlfriends house, I blew the motor. A friend fixed it for me. A few days before moving back to Alabama, we sold it.
My next bike was a Susuki 650 (i think that was the size) that I bought after selling my 1970 Camaro. (BIG MISTAKE GETTING RID OF THAT CAR) I ended up trading that bike for a Grand Torino and moved to Florida.
Next bike was a brand new Honda Shadow around 1987. I sold it to one of the officers a year or so later. I was a reserve officer back then.
Next one was....well...I don't remember what it was other than a slice of crapola. Never got papers for it and honestly don't remember how I got it and who I sold it to. Did not have it too long.
I would not get another one till around 2002. My serious riding would not start until then either. I had never done any real riding with any of my previous motorcycles. Just local riding never getting further than maybe 50 or so miles from home. I did not know what I was missing, but would soon find out!
My serious riding all started when one of my past supervisors bought a Harley around 2002 and I decided that I needed to get myself another bike. I have had several growing up, but had not had one in about 20 years. I found a Honda Magna 750 (I wish I had some pictures of it) and rode with him a few times and then found a local group of riders and started riding with them. One of the guys (Stan) had a beautiful 2001 Honda Goldwing 1800.
He and I strted riding alot together because he was about the only one of the group that could ride pretty much anytime because he was retired. Being that I work 4 on and 4 off gave me lots of time to ride. I would follow him as he took me on rides lasting several hours. I noticed real quick that he just seemed so comfortable riding that big honking bike with the cruise control, stereo system, cb and all and I started getting the urge to get me one of those Goldwings. I had to stop every 120 miles or so for gas and he did not. Goldwings have a huge gas tank!
So, one day while on a gas stop during one of our rides, I asked him if he knew anyone with a Goldwing for sale. He told me that a friend of ours had said something about someone he knew that had one and so I contact this person who in turn told me about the guy selling one. I meet with him and ended up buying a 1986 Goldwing 1200 and sold my Magna. That started my serious riding and also opened the door to exploring our country and Canada on two wheels.
I have been to 3 Bike Weeks in Daytona Florida and always have a great time. If you have no idea what Bike Week is, here's a few links for you to check it out. Official Bike Week Page

Here's one picture of me takin it easy on my first Gold Wing at my first Bike Week in 2002. Here's another picture of the same Goldwing after having it painted Corvette Yellow. This picture was taken on my trip to Yellow Stone National Park and the Grand Tetons in July of 2002 that Stan and I did. Old Yeller. 5,010 miles and 15 states round trip.
If you absolutely have nothing better to do, you can read about the trip to Yellow Stone
here and

On 05-26-03, I took another trip, but on my second Goldwing which was a 1990 1500. I rode west to Arizona to see Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. I also hit the west coast and went up into Canada and then on to to Hyder Alaska. 8,432 miles round trip. To read about this trip and to see more pics, click here.
On 07-02-04 I began another long trip. Actually, it was two trips together.
Two buddies and myself, rode to Grapevine Texas for the 2004 Wing Ding. There were thousands and thousands of Goldwings there. It was 755 miles one way from here in Alabama.
We stayed till the 5th and then came home. Got home around 2:15 am on the 6th. I then got a few hours sleep and took off to Maine. I wanted to get the eastern states done. While at it, I also hit Vermont and Quebec Canada.
Total miles for both trips together was 4,851 in 7 days.
On 08-01-05, I departed on my longest trip ever on my 3rd Goldwing which was a 1989 1500. It would take me 10,063 miles round trip. The Arctic Circle
In April of 2006, me and two friends did a 100ccc ride. That is, riding from Coast to Coast to Coast in less than 100 hours. This was done on my Goldwing at the time which was the 1998 1500.
Here is a link to that trip. It is kinda short and was done for the folks on the GWRRA message board to see and read about our trip. There were namy board members keeping up with our progress during the trip because it is a very demanding ride to do.
100ccc
Here's a pic taken in Key West Florida in December 2004 of me and my 1989 1500. Key West Florida. I have been there a few times. It's a great ride. Still have not seen Jimmy Buffett there but I have seen him in concert. Yeah, I'm a Parrot Head!
Obviously, I love riding my Wing and telling others about it. I am a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Check out their page and the message boards. You can usually see posts from me in the General Message Board.
I have taken pictures of most of the state line signs and territories in Canada that I have been to on my Wings. If your really bored, you can see some of them here.
I also love flying radio controlled airplanes, and real airplanes such as the Cessna 152 that I fly at Air Ventures in LaGrange Ga.
I have a son who's name is Joshua. He is 21 ns works for Intercall.
Here is a picture from about 19 years ago of Joshua, my brother Jerome, my father, and me. The Brown Boy's.
My dad lives in Tampa Florida. It is a nice little (yes I call 444 miles little) ride down to see him. I try to head to Tampa once a month or so to see him and my step mother and step brother. Goodness, I need to get some pictures if those nuts.
I had a daughter named "Trixie Dog" who died in my hands on 03-28-99. I will miss here more than words can say. I had her for 9 years. Everyone that saw her would ask what kind of dog she was. I'd just say "A Sooner". Sooner be this, sooner be that, and the best dog I ever had! Did not know any tricks, but gave me a lifetime of love. She was about 12 years old.
I had dog named "Boomer" 5 years ago. She is a Toy Maltise. "Boomer Dog"
Here's is a picture of (from left to rt) me, my sister Robin who lives in Union S.C. (yes..home of Susan Smith the child killer) my grandmother, my sister Susan who lives in Birmingham Al, and my cousin Kathy. This is another of most of my family during Christmas of 1996. My grandmother is no longer with us. She left this world a few years ago to be with my grand dad in Heaven. I miss them both very very much! I love you grand mother and grand dad!!
Here is a picture of my 15 year reunion.

I love to laugh! The best place to get your funny bone tickled is The Punchline in Atlanta Georgia. Been there many times.
I love going places, doing and seeing things. One of my favorite little getaways is going down to Florida and watching the Shuttle take off. I have seen 7. No more now thanks to Obama.
Fishing was always a favorite pass time till I got into the Radio Controlled Airplanes thing. I had a 1994 Stratos 270 Bass Boat with a Johnson 150 pushing it. I sold it like a BIG DUMMY when I got into R/C Planes. I miss my boat!
