Hey my name is Josh! I have been going back to your duipictures web page for the past year. I just keep reading the stories over and over again.I have just turned 21 and i have a zero tolerance for drugs alcohol and etcs. I have begun to devote my life to stopping these people on the road. I'm currently in college and getting a criminal justice degree. Your page hits me hard every time i look at it. I'm proud to say as a 21 year old that i have turned down all the chances to get messed up with friends and I have prevented many from driving. My best friend in high school is one of these guys that participates in these activities and I turned my back on him and reported him to the law because like i said I have ZERO TOLERANCE! I have lost so many friends over the years because I believe in this so much they just don't understand how this effects me. I just wanted to know that your page is very appreciated. I know that its hard to sit down and say no to a good time but when they don't do that something always seems to happen. I can't explain why these tragic events effect me so much because I have never had an personal experience with it but I couldn't begin to imagine what the families go through. Thanks for your page.

Hi Rick, I am a high school health teacher in Southern California. When we get to our drunk driving unit, I take my students to your site and show them the pictures and tell them the stories. It is always a very effective tool, and many of the students go there afterwards at home to see more. I am currently taking a Computer for Educators class, and this week are discussing copyright law and use in the classroom. I went back to your site for an example, because I know you are so generous with sharing your work. I read the part that said to let you know if people were using the site, and I want you to know that I do, every semester, and I have about 160 student per semester. Over the last 5 years, you have exposed these terrrible and tragic stories to over 1500 of my students. I am sure that many forgot soon after, as teenagers who think they are invincible often do, but I also can assure you that it did make a difference for some of them, and that they will think before drinking and driving or getting in a car with a drunk driver. Thank you so much for your website. I am desperately trying to get the message through to my younger sister that she can affect more than just herself by drinking and driving. Every day, I put an wrecked car on her desktop. She has been CAUGHT 15 times and has never had a conviction for DUI. We live in Canada and she is willing to DO ANYTHING to get them not to charge her. She is young and good looking and only one cop has been willing to take her to court but he didn't show up because of a fatality in his family the day he was to go to court. She has totally wrecked 3 cars in single car crashes already. She doesn't leave anywhere that we could call and report her but I am so afraid she will affect someone else but nothing we do seems to matter to her. I lost my oldest sister when I was 13 and she was 16. She fell asleep behind the wheel and hit a semi head on. The semi driver was sitting by the roadside in shock and crying. He will never forget the image of that night. I would greatly appreciate it if you could put on a message telling people to not drive tired. I am a part time deputy sheriff. I showed this site to my LT. and he is going to use your pictures and videos in his presentation that he puts on for high school students. You are doing a wonderful thing. I wish all young and experienced drivers alike would go to this website. The common remark, "it wont happen to me" is used all to often. This website shows that these people had consequences to this foolish decisions. I have yet to be involved in an alcohol related crash and I do not look forward to it. It angers me that these people just don't get it. They think that we are picking on them and we are not. We are trying to keep the public safe by they just don't understand. I think this website and videos associated with it should be a required part of dui diversions and alcohol abuse courses that the court requires them to take. You are doing a wonderful thing. Keep it up. If anything you have enlightened me to remove more of these people off the streets. I am sure that you have changed many peoples attitudes on drunk driving. Keep up the good work. My name is Katrena Blevins and I am 23. Although I have never caused an or been in an accident due to my driving drunk I still do it. About six years ago my Dad a chief in the navy was giving a briefing to the sailors before they went on leave for a holiday (can't remember which) and he ended up giving them all a brochure about Jacqueline Saburido and her story, and he ended up bring me one home to read..... I did and I told myself that I would never dring and drive as the years went on and I started driving and then became legal age to drink I started drinking and driving.... this has gone on for quite a few years. I was on the internet and for some reason I looked up DUI pictures in a search engine and there was your site. I spent my day off reading the stories and crying at my computer like a little baby, but I still went out and drank then drove, but it wasnt just with me in the car it was with my best friends also..... well the other day I decided to look at your site again because I have recently become engaged to a Navy man and he doens't like the fact that I drink and drive even more the fact that I drink..... so I went through and read every story and looked at every picture..... clicked on the extra links and again I cried like a little baby, only this time I was work. I then printed out a poem that Susan the girlfriend of Beau the victim of a drunk driver and I used that poem in my journal to make a vow to myself and to God. I am stopping my dinking and driving, I am telling you this because your site is like a little support group. It is going to help me get over this urge to go to the bar have some drinks and then drive home. I am forever in your debt and was wondering if it would be okay to kind of have you as a pen pal or if you know someone that could help me get more knowledge, to help me get over this? hi..its karen from ny again...i just wanted you to know that i found a way to link a laptop to the tv in my classroom for my drivers ed class and showed them your site along with that utube video.... my class was so quiet during the whole thing and afterwards i could tell they were really thinking about what they had just seen and heard. Have been going through your website and picking up pictures to include in a PowerPoint presentation that will be used as part of a DUI presentation that we are setting up here in Kuwait for troops returning to CONUS from this area. Right now, almost all of our training is training the military and civilian personnel here in Kuwait in the Army Safe Drivers Training program. This program is based on the General Motors Advanced Skills Driver Training program that they developed a few years ago to reduce their self-insurance costs.

Soon, however, we'll also be teaching what we're tentatively calling the Army Impaired Driver Awareness Program. We'll be using SIDNE carts, drunk goggles, hearing impairment devices, PowerPoint, etc. to try and show the troops exactly how dangerous, not to mention stupid, DUI is and how great their chances are that, if they choose to drink and drive, they or someone else will probably not survive the experience. I'm trying to find pictures of any sort that shows just how awful the results of DUI can truly be. Thankfully, your site provided me with a number of great examples. I couldn't care less if I get some, or all, of the students we'll have in the classes get sick and throw up. I'd rather have them throw up in a classroom than injure/kill someone on the road. Luckily, I think the bosses over here, both civilian in my company, and in the military for whom we're working, agree on that point.

Anyway, I wanted to check in and make sure that you had no problems with us using any of the photos I've gotten from your site. I'm planning on integrating the photos into the overall slide show. One of the things that we are going to stress is that our program is not going to try and abstain from alcohol (if they want to drink, they're going to drink!) but to get them to not drink and then get behind the wheel! If you've got any suggestions, idea, etc. that you feel might work in this regard, I'd be more than glad to hear what you have to say.

My name is David Reha. I live in Littleton, CO. Home of the famous Columbine High School. My first visit to your site was almost three years ago. I had just lost one of my best friends in an alcohol involved car crash. He had been drinking at a party and left without anyone trying to stop him and thats where his story ended. Just like so many other tragic stories on your site his ended in a mangled, destroyed and rolled vehicle. He was ejected and died a few hours later at the hospital. After his death I started speaking to groups around the Denver, CO. area about the dangers of drinking and driving and how it affects the lives of friends and families. My first visit to your site was durring one of my late nights trying to find stats and information to use in my classes. I have had many more visits since. Now I work with families from all across the United States that have similar stories to mine. It amazes me how many people know and appreciate your site. There is rarely somone I come into contact with that doesnt know about your site, and on top of that I have only heard good things from them about your site. Now I run an organization here in colorado called Student Outreach for Alcohol Responsibility. SOFAR's mission is to educate teenagers on the dangers of drinking and driving and irresponsible drinking habits. I also have just recently graduated from a police academy and will soon be a police officer as well. It is one of my missions in life to make sure that I can prevent as many needless deaths and injuries related to drinking and driving as I can. I want to thank you for what you have done with your site. It really has affected peoples lives in a positive way and I know because I'm one of them. Hi. My name is Magan and my dad was the one who told me about your website. I am a 17 year old girl who has just started driving. One of my father's biggest fears is finding me in a wreck. But it becomes worse when he thinks someone might be drinking. As a police officer for the past 10 or so years he has seen his fair share of drunk driving accidents and related deaths. I will admit that I never really realized it was as big of a deal as some people made it out to be, although I haven't or ever will ride with a drunk driver. He had a poem that he had gotten off of your site and read it at our local high school at an alcohol awareness program. At the time I didn't attend there so he gave the poem to me to read on my own time. At first I didn't think it would be anything new, just the usual stuff he shows me. Well, later that same night before I laid down for bed I saw the paper laying on my nightstand. I picked it up and started reading it. Once I read the last line you could have filled a bucket with my tears. It was the first poem I had ever read that sounded as if it were my friends. To this day I will NEVER drink and drive or ride with any one that's had anything to drink! Thank you so much for what you are doing!

I am also the mother of two teenage daughters, so alcohol is something that is talked about often. Our class asked to do a paper on the one problem in society that touches us the most and mine is, and will always be, those that drink and drive. Hello, my name is Michele, and I am a 29 yr old college student. My Public Speaking class was given a group assignment for our final speech, in which my group chose to discuss the laws of Drunk Driving, and how they should be changed. I happen to come across your site through a search engine, and has totally just made me jump right into this assignment! Not only has your site touched me, and made my heart go out to all those people who have lost loved ones in drunk driving related accidents, it has made me more aware of how the laws "suck". I have now started researching all laws and cant seem to stop. It makes me sad to know that most of these accidents are caused by people who are not only drunk, but who have been convicted before. Our laws for drunk drivers just arent harsh enough, and i think that first time offenders should be punished more than just community service, a fine, and a slap on the hand. More needs to be done, and it needs to be across the board, not just state to state! Drunk Drivers need to be punished from the start, and not be given a second chance just b/c they have had a clean record, or they are remorseful. Thank you for putting our site out there. All I can say is THANK YOU! Thank you for making this page, thank you for hopefully deterring someone from getting behind the wheel drunk. An accident that occurs when someone is drunk is NO ACCIDENT, it is a senseless thought out action. I lost by best friend named Angela, she was senior in high school, when as I watched crossed the street in front of me at night, when a woman driving at approx. 80 miles an hour, with no headlights, struck my friend, hit her so hard it nearly cut her in half, the impact through her over a median wall and clear on the other side of the road on the sidewalk she was walking too. She lived for a few minutes, in my arms, as I screamed for help. Nearly every bone in her body was broken, I live with this everyday of my life, I have been through years of therapy, and millions of nightmares, wondering if I just talked to her for 10 more seconds she would still be here with me helping me plan my wedding but she's not. I have lost 3 other friends, from another drunk driver in the same car, the drunk was driving the vehicle they were in, smashed into a tree so hard, that the tree was now where the gear shifter should be. DEAR MR. BROWN, ON OCTOBER 2OTH, 1999, MY SISTER AND 3 FRIENDS WERE DRIVING DRUNK ON A RURAL ROAD IN MONTANA. IT WAS MY SISTER'S CAR AND SHE WAS SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHILE A FRIEND DROVE. THEY APPROACHED AN "S" CURVE AT 88.9 MILES PER HOUR. (SPEED FIGURED BY HIGHWAY PATROL). BEING HIGHLY INTOXICATED AND HIGH FROM MARIJUANA, THE DRIVER MISJUDGED THE CURVE AND SKIDDED OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A CONCRETE WALL. NO ONE WAS WEARING A SEATBELT AT THE TIME OF IMPACT. THE CAR HIT, WENT AIRBORNE, AND FLIPPED 1 1/2 TIMES BEFORE LANDING UPSIDE DOWN. THE DRIVER WAS THROWN OUT WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HIS CHIN. THE TWO YOUNG MEN IN THE REAR BOTH DIED. ONE FROM A BROKEN NECK AND ONE FROM DROWNING IN THE SMALL POND THEY LANDED IN. MY SISTER WASN'T AS LUCKY. SHE WAS THROWN AGAINST THE DASH, RUPTURING HER AORTA, WHICH USUALLY KILLS YOU INSTANTLY. SHE WAS THEN PARTIALLY EJECTED WITH THE CAR LANDING ON TOP OF HER . THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR PUSHED HER INTO THE POND FACE FIRST WHICH ACTUALLY SAVED HER LIFE. THE FUEL LINE ON THE CAR BURST INTO FLAME AND CAUGHT MY SISTER ON FIRE. SHE WAS ON FIRE FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE FD ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH HER. SHE WAS BURNED ON OVER 45% OF HER BODY AND WAS IN THE SALT LAKE CITY BURN UNIT FOR 4 MONTHS. TODAY SHE HAS NO HAIR, MISSING ONE EAR, A FINGER, SHE HAS A COLOSTOMY BAG BECAUSE HER BACK, BUTTOCKS, RECTUM,THIGHS, CALVES AND FEET WERE BURNED SO BADLY. This is an awesome site, I enter my children in online children's photo contest and one of the owner's has your site posted on her web page, thats how I came across it. I lost my mother-in-law to a semi who was driving recklessly and speeding last August, he ran a red light and hit her driver's side door, it killed her instantly. She was wearing her seat belt but didn't stand a chance against a empty semi truck, jack knifing sideway's at her. We know she's in a better place now, but if that 27 year old boy would have just thought about the power he was driving she might have been here with us today. He goes to court tomorrow for his arrainment, hopefully justice will be served for Becky. She was 51 and getting ready to celebrate her 35 anniversary with my father-in-law. She had 2 son's and 6 grandchildren who she would have given her life for, and they ask often, the younger one's do, when can we see Mim's? I tell them she's in heaven and oneday we will be there to and then we will live with her and see her all the time. I appreciate this site very much even though the driver wasn't drunk, he still drove recklessly and took a precious life of a wonderful wife, mom, grandma and friend. I was arrested for DWI, which was dropped to a DUI. The courts are very easy. I had a good lawyer and was let off pretty easy. I went to the classes and made my way through the 6 weeks. Even after the classes I still drank and drove. It was not until I had to do a project for my children's school against drugs and alcohol that I learned my lesson. Not from the classes but from your web site. I went searching on the net for comments and information for Hugs are better than drugs. I came upon your website. After seeing these pictures and reading the stories there is absolutely no way that I would ever in my life again have 1 drink and drive. This was more effective then the classes that I took. I could have been one of those people who killed an innocent child or scared myself for life, or landed up not being able to be identified. I commend you for this web site. You have taken a DUI/DWI offender off the road for good. You should go to schools, PTA meetings, Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts and any meeting that you can that kids are involved in. I even downloaded the "DEATH CLOCK" to keep reminding me "NOT TO DRINK AND DRIVE" Thank you for saving my life and the lives of innocent people that I could have killed. Forever indebted to you

I feel very indebted to you. I am sending you this e-mail because for some reason I owe you my life. I need to do this. Please read it.

Words cannot express how you responding to me made me feel. I want to let you know a few more things about me. At the time of my arrest I was 39 years old. Had been drinking and driving for many years. There were times that I wondered how I ever got home. Black Outs they are called. My father is a retired NY cop. I am married to the man of my dreams and have 2 beautiful children. When they get older they will know about "mommys" arrest. If by me telling them can help to save them or someone else it will be worth it. Spending a night in jail, being finger printed and watching my husband cry as they took me away in handcuffs in the patrol car was more than I could handle. But why did I keep drinking and driving. Because I thought that I was indestructable. It would not happen to me again. Plus I have my fathers badge (which I did not have on me the night I got pulled over) I told my parents and my dad was with me when I went to court. He helped me pay the fine. Which I am paying back. All in all this night out was a nightmare. (I never go out literally) I work full time at night spend my days taking care of my children. We were going out to celebrate our friends birthday. I asked them when we left do you want me to drive. NO NO NO was what they told me. Well you guessed it. They were drinking heavy, doing shots etc... and I was the one who was in the best shape. I only had beers. I thought I was fine. I pulled out of the bar parking lot (driving a car that I have never driven before and it was a 4 speed) and I did not put the blinker on and there just happened to be a cop there. I continued up the road made a U-turn at a light and again did not put my blinker on. He followed me to another light and when I made a right hand turn he pulled me over. Could I have made it home, I don't know. Did he stop me from killing someone or even us, I don't know. Maybe he was my guardian angel. I really hated him though. After the whole court ordeal and the mental evaluation evaluation and about 2,000 dollars later all I needed to do was attend the classes and then I would be on probation and get my license back. The classes were good. I did learn, but nothing impacted me more than what I learned from your website. I am still in contact with the person who conducted the DWI classes and told him about your site. Everyone who gets pulled over or arrested should be made to visit your sight, read the stories, look at the pictures and realize that they could have killed someone or ruined their life. I have to say to you again, you saved my life.

You saved me from hurting my parents, leaving my children without a mother, making my husband a widower and throwing away a life that I have always dreamed of having. I still have beers at home, but never ever would I get in a car and drive. God Bless you for the work that you are doing with your web-site. I really meant it when I said somehow you need to get in touch with organizations, high schools, the courts and anyone else to show these offenders (including me) What mistakes can be made and the lives that they can take because they wanted to go out and have fun.

I found your site to be very interesting. You see in 1998 I was arrested for a DWAI in the state of new york. I already had 5 or 6 drinks and thought I was ok to drive. The night I was pulled over I had a headlight out. I blew a .16 lost my license for 3 months. Had to attend drunk driving classes and paid a $330.00 fine. People in those classes I attended were there before. They had 3 or 4 DWI's. I consider myself very lucky. Not only did I learn a very expensive lesson, But the most important thing is I did not kill anyone, or myself. I have not and will not drink and drive again. Although I could have kissed the State Trooper that gave me a DWAI, because I believe without that I would still be driving drunk. GOD LOVE HIM. I know I do! I really think your site will do some good for people if they just take the time to read and look like I did.

This page is defitely a wake up call to whoever sees it. I came to your page for two reasons. One, a week ago i was allowed to pick a topic two write a persuassive essay/ speech on. Well i wanted animal abuse, because i love animals very much andd feel strongly about them but someone took it. So now my topic is drinking and driving. Last night a very tragic event happened. It was my 16th birthday party me and my friend threw a huge party. One of my best friends drank 5 times the legal limit and died (flat lined) then regained concisness. I was by her side the entire time terifed. Now, this topic actually means something to me and the pictures reinforced my sorrow. Holding my friend while she was on her death bed scared me more than anything. I am gonig to do something myself to try to prevent underage drinking and driving, just teens drinking period. Dear Sgt.Richard J. Brown, Tonight I decided to tell you thanks for your website. I am doing an argumentative research paper on how there should be harder sentencing for drunk driving, an in an attempt to find information I came upon your website. August 31,1999 I was hit head on by a drunk driver on the way home from work, and only a week into my senior year. I have had three plastic surgeries to reconstruct my face, but inside I still hurt so bad. You wrote that people don't appreciate what you do, I wanted you to know from the bottom of my heart I think your job takes the most strength, courage, and bravery of any job out there. It is appearent how strongly you feel about drunk driving and that shows me more than ever police care for what they do. Please know you are a hero in my heart and so many others. I don't know if you could help me, but I have been wanting for a long time to help my community with this problem. Dear Seargent.....These are indeed very graphic pictures..I could not help but sit here and weep uncontrollably. I will have a 16 yr old this February and am in complete confusion over a safe vehicle for him to drive...he wants my Mustang and I just cannot do it!!! Your site is very effective and even though it is graphic is is what needs to be seen I am not a drinker and it had a profound effect on me. My brother-in-law has been a paramedic for the past 15 years and I cannot imagine what sorrow you guys must have to deal with..even though graphic in nature I am going to let my sons view your sight because seeing reality will surely make you believe it and also maybe prevent it from happening to them and also myself. I have worked traffic fatalities myself, and i wish drunk drivers could realize the pain they cause before the worst has happened. I think that many shy away from using pictures of car wrecks but sometimes it takes the blood of others to make some see the truth. This CAN and DOES happen. And the general public needs to know that there ARE consequences to driving even after "just a few beers". Why is it so hard to see that one can just as easily call a cab instead of getting behind the wheel? Hi, I graduate from nursing school in 12/01, I am currently taking a final prerequisite,Speech. My final speech of the course is on drunk driving, I copied some pictures for overhead viewing for the class. Working as a patient care tech in the trauma unit @ Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Il., I thought I saw it all, but the pictures on your web site are unbelievable. Since my experiences from that trauma unit I do not go out, especially on the weekends or holidays. I do not drink and drive, I would never get a job as a nurse if I did and was caught, and I could not live with myself if I had harmed someone else.This information provided by you(and presented very well), has had an even greater impact on me then what I've already seen. I wanted to thank you for people like you who put these web sites together. Personally, my boyfriend I am trying to help. He has all of a sudden picked up a drinking problem, and of course, I don't want to be around it. The other day, he wanted me to go down the road with him after he had been drinking. I personally for one am not stupid, and secondly I am in the EMS field so I have seen the end result of such stupidity. I have explained to him how it is always the people who have the attitude that says "It won't happen to me it's just this one time" that always kills, and I explained to him about the 19 year old we picked up this weekend who fell 40 feet of a waterfall, who of course had been drinking, who probably won't live and had his brother watch him plummit to the ground below. I am putting together some material from not only a medical point of view and the effects of alcohol on the body, but what it does to yourself, or to some innocent person when an idiot, decides to drink and drive. at my place of employment, we are extremely safety conscientious on and off the job. we have a wrecked car courteously of the local sherifs department and i was put in charge of the bulletin page, i used your pictures to tell some people that can read but do not understand the damage of driving drunk to show them what it looks like. thank you for having the graphic pictures perhaps we may only reach one person but how many lives could that save? I've got a presentation coming up in one of my classes at college and figured that I would do it about Drunk Driving since it is something that I am ---> VERY <---against. The main reason being:
A) One of my best friends and I came up on a drunk driving wreck back in 1995 or so. We found a male victim and a female victim of a drunk driver. The drunk driver received ONLY 20 years or so and of course feels bad now, but why should it have gotten to this level?
B) I was hit by a drunk driver about 2 years ago at a stop light. My friend received neck pains and thank God, neither one of us really got hurt, but then the driver drove off as we pursued (to get the LP) they threw a bag of marijuana out of the window...

Sir, I was recently in a accident involving alcohol and I am ashamed and scared to admit it. I too thought I was invincible, either I thought it wouldn't be me on the roads too drunk to drive (because I could handle myself) or I would be able to avoid the cars around me. I was lucky. I take this luck as a message to my life. I was on a path to destruction and now, unfortunately, this accident has helped me see what can really happen. I flipped my car twice, injured no one and came out with 40 stitches. I had to tell my story- humans are not invincible.

Kinda of a messed up morbid thing to say "great site" it would be even greater if we did not have to have such a sight.Unfortunately we have to educate these people some how. I actualy stumbled accross your sight by accident. I am doing a DUI presentation to my class mates in college and in the process of looking for info, I stumbled accross your site. I borrowed a few pictures and stories to use for my presentation, I will mention your site. I hope that I get through to a few of these students who seem to think they are invincable. I to have lost a close and dear friend to the perils of a DUI driver and it frustrates me that people are soo foolish to beleive that it will never happen to them. I like your story of "who we are". I am from Alberta Canada and was a volunteer Auxiliary Officer before I went Back to School. I now understand your story fully. I have been spit on ridiculed and insulted even as an Auxiliary. I think people tend to forget that police officers are human, have families, hobies and feelings. I believe people tend to put police officers too high on a pedistal and figure that they are inhuman and that they should be perfect. Well police officers are your neighbors, the parents sitting next to you watching the class school play, and the husband or wife walking the dog that pass you on that walking path. To those of you who insult the police officers try to think about that before you put your mouth in gear. These people put their lives on the line for your safety ( To Serve and Protect ). Thank you for such a wonderful web page. I am a teacher to 7th and 8th graders, and can see everyday that they think they will live forever. I am about to present a Drunk Driving unit at my school, in March, and I am hoping and praying that some of your stories will keep them from making an awful decision. Since this is only my second year of teaching, I was lacking for ways to present this unit. I was looking for some material that would make an impact on them, I think I found it. It will be interesting to see what they have to say when the unit is over. Thank you so much for this page. I had a cousin who was killed at 16 from not wearing her seat belt, and the car rolling over onto her. It caused my family a lot of pain, but we are slowly healing. (This happened 12 years ago.) Hi .. I just wanted to thank-you! Without knowing it, you GREATLY helped me with my senior research paper/project and portfolio! I did my paper ... on prevention methods of DUIs and i rode with a DUI investigator for my project!! Ive never learned so much!!!! Hello! I visit your site every time i get a chance. Its really wonderful that someone would put a site up like this. If only every one could see it and have it change their minds about drinking an driving. I have never done it my self. I was just raised that way. I have lost several friends and family that have either lost their lives due to them being the stupid and getting behind the wheel while drinking. My father almost lost his life to drinking an driving. I thank God every day that he spared my fathers life. This may sound a little strange but the one good thing that came out of his wreck was that he has a permanent injury from it. And that one injury has saved his life several times. He would be drinking and someone would ask him to go to the store, or ask him to drive any where and he would look at his injury and it would remind him of the one time he wasn't so lucky and he would not get behind the wheel seeing that he lost his leg up to the knee from this wreck It reminds him how stupid he was every time he looks down. If only more people took the time to actually listen to the people that really care and try to teach them the dangers of drinking and driving, the roads would be so much safer. my brothers girlfriend died this year in a drunk driving wreck, there were 3 other people in the car besides her (i am saying her because i don't want to say her name) all of the 3 were drunk and on drugs she was the only one sober and the only one that died! before she was killed her and my brother would get into cars with people on drugs and alochol and they had the attitude that nothing will happen to us, that is like a large percent of what my school says, i use to drink never drove but know after her death i won't touch alochol, its not worth it, i work in a store were we sell alochol and i see number of people that are drunk when they come in, a lot of new 21ers that most likely will get in their car that night drunk, and it scares me that it could happen to me, my boyfriend or some close to me, just because someone is so STUPID to get into a car drunk, i just want to say ur site is great i am doing a presention this year in my school. and i am dong it on drunk driving, and i am going to use ur website to show what can happen to u if you don't wear a seltbelt and drink and drive. thank u again me

hello i have just read some of your updated stories fell for the families that have to go through the pain of losing a family member let alone a child to a drunk driver.out of the ones i read tonight the one that makes the maddest is the one on jasper an misty. it really pisses me off to know that someone who kills 2 people from drinking an driving gets away with only 30 days in jail. people that just get in fights get more time than that. i think the laws on drinking an driving should be much stiffer and carry a much much bigger punishment. he more or less just got a slap on the wrist and a okay from the court system to go out an kill someone else. these families in these stories will forever be in my thoughts an prayers.

I'm doing a project for my school, and I choose the topic of drunk driving, because it has effected my life. I'm 15, and with out a mother. I lost her when I was 9 to a drunken man driving a truck. You have some really awesome stuff on your website, it should be a prerequisite course for drivers ed in high schools. As a mother and stepmother of two 20 year olds, I am proud to say we have taught our kids well, they always wear their seat belts and never (well they tell me never) drink and drive. Of course I realize this does not protect them from someone else who might be DUI. This is a point I have made to them all thru their lives. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. As a younger woman, I drank heavily, and almost hit a pine tree one (early) morning coming home after an evening of "fun". It scared me very badly, not for myself, but for some reason all that kept flashing before my eyes was a beige woodsided station wagon with a family inside, all covered in blood. To this day I can still see them, although on that night I made it safely home. As I got older, I decided if I wanted to drink, I would go to the store, buy all I could possible consume, bring it home, and hang up the keys. Lately, we are even leary of people coming over to our house and bringing alcohol, then leaving. We ask them to stay over if they are in serious shape, have even taken the keys from a few of them so they could not leave. Most of the drivers out on the roads are scary anyway, and then you start putting alcohol into themix................recipe for disaster!
Just wanted to thank you for the service you provide. Maybe a lot of people don't see it, but I'm sure whoever DOES see it will remember it.

Hi! You have a great page with a lot of great information. I am 48 yrs. old, recovering alcoholic. Closet drinker for 30 yrs. I am the sad owner of two DUI's. I have been in jail 4 times & lost count how many times I was arrested, all alcohol related. I also have attempted suicide 10 times. Most times I didn't remember because of the blackouts. I still don't remember a lot of the things I did. Not being able to get in a car and drive reminds me everyday, the stupidity of my actions. I wish I could tell the world how painful it is to live with myself and the pain I have caused so many others. I was one of the "lucky" ones that didn't have a car wreck, but it doesn't lessen the impact of the consequences. Keep doing what you are doing to "plant a seed" in the minds of people who might be ready to make a bad choice.

I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you that you have a really great page going and i hope you do make the difference that you hope to. I myself wish i could stop everyone from drinking and driving but the world is just to big of a place for just one person to make a difference. I lost two good friends to a drunk driving accident. They were estimated to be doing speeds up to 95 to 100 mph when the hit a gard rail. they were both thrown out of the car and killed. That is one accident that seat belts wouldn't have made a difference in though, cause the car cut a telephone pole in half and burts into flames. When i answered it, i had a funny feeling in my stomach telling me something was wrong. It was Seth's mother and she was crying. She called to tell me he was in a accident, and that he hit someone and killed a 3 year old girl, and his self. I still haven't gone to another party since, and i haven't dated any one sinse. First of all I'd like to say thank you so much for making your page. I'm sure that it opened many peoples eyes a little more to the seriousness of DUI... Hopefully it will help many more people to see the facts too. I'm only 16, but I decided a long time ago that I would never drive after I have had an alcoholic drink...

I have met so many kids around my age and younger/older that are affected by peer pressure and try things that they shouldn't... I know numerous kids that love to go out and drink every weekend... and smoke... and do drugs... People have already been hurt by the drugs and the drinking and the smoking... even people that these kids knew, but does that seem to affect them? No... They still go out and drink and such... The drinking would not necessarily be so bad, as long as it is kept under control, and it would be nice if they weren't underage... but I pray that they do not drive after they have drank. Not only do they endanger themselves, but they also endanger all the people around them.

Another thing that some(probably a lot of) people don't realize that there are other things besides alcohol and illegal drugs can impair your driving.. Other things like over the counter medications (Like how Benadryl can make you sleepy)... and prescription medicines...

Too, the whole seat belt thing, I don't understand why anyone would not want to use something that can save their life. I wear my seatbelt every time I am in the car and if I am driving, or even if I am just riding, I try to make sure that everyone else in the car has their's on too. If I'm driving, I won't go anywhere till everyone in the car has their seatbelt on. Even if you are just driving through a parking lot, or around the block, anything could happen... especially when you are least expecting it. I've seen too many times, what can happen when you don't have your seatbelt on and are in a wreck. None of it is good.

I just wanted to take a moment to say Thanks for the job you and other Officers do out there on the streets. I have been twice charged with DUI and it took two times for me to learn my lesson. Luckily I never harmed or killed anyone. As you said in your one story I looked at the Officer as an A-hole when it happened but I know that he was just doing his job, as well as keeping me and the innocent people driving on the streets safe from A-holes like me. Hi, I was surfing thru the net one night and I came upon your site while following links. It really touched my heart. I have lost friends in school to DUI, back then the laws were not so stiff. I am saddened to say they are still not stiff enough. (But most laws are not what they should be!) I have e-mailed your site to every mother and father I know. I believe that reality education is the only way to go in times where most everything makes the TV or internet anyway. Your site is tasteful and sends a serious message. I hope all of these people will show it to their kids and learn from it themselves.
The only thing that it seems nothing short of experience can erase, is that 'it'll never happen to me' illusion ... I wonder how many murderers have wondered after their drunken tirade .. Wow, why did I think I was invincible? My heart goes out to the people who have lost loved ones, and my congratulations to them for having the strength to share their stories. I am a nurse and I understand the process one lives thru when you watch someone slip away from you over a careless act of selfishness. I just saw your webpage and I think it's great what you are doing. I was hit by a drunk driver in Feb of 99. My injuries were a shattered outer ankle, borken inner ankle, shattered kneecap, and exploded heel. I had to undergo 2 reconstructive surgeries. One of which the doctor's had to take part of my hip to fix my heel. I now have a total of 16 screws, 2 plates, and wire holding my right leg together. It took me 11 months to walk again and I've taken my experience and have gone around to local schools telling other people about my accident. So when I see webpages like this one it makes me happy that other people are out there trying to stop this from happening to other people. God Bless,

Thanks for doing this i will definely show my friends this site. I drive wreckers for Gill`s in harpersville on Hwy. 280 and hwy 231 and i see my share of wrecks and what happens to the familys . My dad was Chief Wayne Butler of Vincent AL. which passed away last month of a heart attack but when i was eight he had to pull a eight year old out from under a truck that the driver had been drinking , the boy was draged amost 300 ft. he had been riding a mini bike and his helment was 81 ft. away from impact that was over 23 years ago but i remember how it really torn him up for a long time he always said it could as well been me instead of the other kid because you don`t never know who`s coming at you .good luck and may God bless you and keep you safe.

I sat here tonight and toured your web site. Sometimes you just hear stories about DUI accidents but the pictures tends to turn the stories into realities. I don't drink but my biggest fear is meeting some idiot on the road who decides that it is okay to go out and get drunk then get behind the wheel of a car. I have a 2 year old daughter, a 4 year old son and a 5 month old daughter. This terrifies me. Sad to say that I am not one who is in the habit of wearing my seatbelt but you can bet that I will make sure to put it on from now on. I can only pray that I will not end up like these innocent people did. I feel very bad for the families of these people and hope that I never have to grieve over the loss of one of my kids because of jerks that do this. Sorry if I sound selfish, it's not intentional. Sarge, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your web site, very well done. I am a Trooper with the Washington State Police. We have a high alcohol impaired driving rate up here. As Troopers we strictly enforce the DUI laws. I am currently in the certification phase of DRE training to help take some of these dopers off the roadway. I have 5 years experience as of this year with the Nicholasville Police Dept in Ky. In my years as a police officer I've seen the same as you have posted on your web page. As a person and not an officer I couldn't understand why people continue to harm one another, but I now see that to most people it is a way of life just as we go to work. Drinking & Driving is there weekend hobby/party. The only time they realize what they done is when they are sobbering up the next morning in jail, to realize that they have taken someones innocent son or daughter. Dear Rick, Your sight is awesome and if that doesn't scare people I don't what will. I'm 17yrs old and a member of SADD at my school. I have been totally against drinking and certainly drinking and driving, a deadly combination. My dad is an acloholic and I've been in the car several times with him when hes drunk, stupid yes I know but I'm petrified of him, and realized I'd be unsafe in any condition. One ride, I'll never forget and I don't like to talk about it, we didn't get into an accident but it was terrifying. Thank you for letting people know about drunk driving, even if it had to be done the hard way.

Hi. I am a 15 year old teenage girl. I live in a small town in North Dakota. We get bored, and alot of the time the fix for that is drinking. We would actually drive around not even with the slightest thought anything bad could ever happen. We are just a bunch of kids out having fun. Good kids actually. i realize what could happen to me or an innocent victim. I will definelty never make those silly mistakes again, and be proud that I don't. Hello. Well, when I found your web site it surely didn't cross my mind that I would be emailing you, but here I am! All I can think after reading and absorbing everything this sight has to offer is "i sure wish I saw this 2 weeks ago or sooner." See the reason I looked up your sight in the first place is because about 2 weeks ago I was arrested for DUI. Yeah I'm the bad guy that this sight is all about! Actually I am a 23 year old single mother. I wasn't going to go out this particular night, but that's always how it goes huh? My friends convinced me to go to a local club with them. About three hours later I was drunk and headed for my brand new car, I just wanted to get home. so I got in and backed up without even looking, which is something I never do........ normally! Well, this particular night someone had gotten alcohol poisoning at the club and the paramedics were called, and they just happened to park their ambulance directly behind my car, funny I didn't even notice it when I left the club, in fact I didn't notice it until I backed into it. The next thing i know there is a police man at my window and a huge audience of peers in the parking lot watching and laughing as he administered the 3 or 4 humiliating drunk tests which i sadly failed! i was arrested, handcuffed and taken to the station. i was lucky to have a really understanding nice police man or maybe he could sense that i am not the type of person to do this kind of thing normally, so he released me to a friend and let her drive me home in my car. how do i feel? sorry for myself? no way! just grateful that i am able to learn this lesson without having the burden of someone else's death or injury on my conscience, grateful that i never even made it out of that parking lot, And grateful that i now have the knowledge and sense to never do this kind of thing again. i have learned a very valuable lesson, actually i am not done yet, i still haven't even been to court yet. but so far, i have wrecked my brand new car that insurance will not cover because it's a DUI, lost my only picture I.D. to the authorities, will have to pay huge fines and huge insurance payments that i really can't afford. these are all bad things, but you know what the worst is for me? it's being branded as a "drunk driver," it's the fact that when victims families such as the ones that have come forth on your sight talk about the "irresponsible idiots who do this kind of thing" they are talking about me! that really hurts. but i consider myself lucky and special that God picked me to learn this valuable lesson at such a small price, because i know myself and i know that i could never live with myself if i hurt or killed another person through my ignorance. Its kind of funny, this is one of the worst things that has ever happened to me, but at the same time it is one of the best too. They say everything happens for a reason, and i believe that to be true, this has truly been an eye opening experience for me, and i think it's really great that you have this sight, i will be passing it on to many of my peers who fall under that 21-35 year old age range that is most common among drunk drivers, and hopefully they can learn from my mistake and by the mistakes of others that you have displayed on your pages. for some reason i want to go on and on, i guess i have been inspired, but I'm sure you have plenty of email to read. if you finished reading this whole thing thank you, and maybe it will feel good to let you know that after reading your pages i fully intend on educating my 4 year old daughter about all of this when she is at the right age (i wish my Mom did) and i will also let her know that the police force is here to protect her not to hurt her, and that policemen are normal people with families and feelings. Seventeen years in law enforcement and I never got use to it either! My name is Rick Ellis, and I was with the Alexandria(VA) Police Department, the last 5 years as a motorman. Dear Rick, The pictures bring out many emotions and the terrifying reality of drunking and driving. I too am a police officer and like you I have seen the tragedy and have felt sick to my stomach. Some of me has stayed at the accident scenes and when I drive by the scenes, I get choked up with emotions. It's very sad to see the death and dismemberment, and yet it was all for a good time. It is hard to explain to someone that their loved one has been killed in an alcohol related accident but still we must do our jobs, no matter how painful. I love this site! It brought tears to my eyes! I have indirectly affected by a drunk driver. A drunk driver killed my grandfather (when my dad was 12) and i never met him (for obvious reasons)!

I am a Police Officer with the Lake Oswego Police Dept.(25+years) It is hard to make people understand the force involved in an out of control car.......until you are explaining it after an accident. I think it would be great if we could have laws that make it a violation to drive after drinking PERIOD! Our laws here in Oregon for possessing an open container in a vehicle and the zero tolerance law which charges a minor with DUII if they have any alcohol in their system have saved lives. A friend of mine's father died buy a drunk driver,he just put his 9 month old granddaughter into the car he went around to the other side of the car to join his wife and grand baby and as he walked he was struck and killed by a drunk driver.His wife saw that the car was hit and went to find her husband and as she called for him she saw his hat on the road and walked alittle further and saw his body on the road,the man that hit him said"sorry lady"This is the saddest thing to happen his grand baby never got to knew what a wondreful man that he was.So this christmas his family and friends have to go w/o their father,friend and grandfather.Just because someone had to be so irresponsible and drive the car. The driver of the car took a "short cut"onto a less traveled road instead of the main road and look what happened. Iwish all would think about this and the pain that it can cause. I drove drunk once and NEVER again it was scary and I will never ever do something so stupid.Thank God that i didn't kill anyone or hit anyone. Thank you for this time to write in and I hope that everyone can wise up against this.
