I'm still not up to a lot of typing but here's a short version of our trip. I have not read all of the posts about our trip so some of what I say here will probably be repeated.

We left Alabama Sunday morning about two hours after I got off work and a great breakfast. I was not too tired and had made several trips to Daytona and Tampa after getting off work before with no problems.

We got to Johns house in Jacksonville about 6 hours later.

John is something else yall! He was such a great host and made us feel right at home real quick.

We had talked earlier on the phone and he asked if spaghetti would be good for supper and of course we said yes, so it was waiting for us when we got there.

His girlfriend Abby can really cook! She was a sweetie!

After getting our stuff of the bikes and eating, I found my bedroom for the night and crashed while the rest chatted for awhile.

I slept a few hours and woke up and found John still awake in the living room. We went out on the back porch and "talked shop" and traded "war stories" as is he a retired copper from Jacksonville PD. He retired about 2 years ago.

About 44 days from retirement, a idiot at a bar ran over him with a Dodge Dakota truck. He ran over his stomach and pelvis area and John was in hospital for months. Had many broken bones and a lot of road rash as he was pulled along the asphalt for a bit.

Yes, the guy was caught when he came back to the scene after finding out what he had done.

Long story short, he got 20 years, but John talked to him after he recovered the best he could. The guy had never been in trouble and was an ex-Marine with two daughters and had just gone through a divorce. John told him that he did not want him to do 20 years and that he needed to be with his daughters as they grew up. John got with the DA's office and requested that his time was reduced to only 5 years. He has also requested from the parol board to have that reduced now. Still waiting on that. He is an amazing person and just wants to catch big Bass in his lake behind his house and ride his 1800 Wing.

Anyway, back to the trip!

John took us to the beach and we got a few pics (none of mine turned out cause it was so dark) but we got gas and left around 2:20 am edt. John rode with us about 30 miles getting us out fo the city and then we were off.

We decided that our best speed would be around 71 to 73 mph as shown on gps for better gas mileage and distance between gas stops. That let us run 180 to 210 miles between stops.

Just after it started getting light is when Phil decided to check out how his bike rides in the grass so he hit the median at 70 mph. He was in front of me and before I could tell him to watch what he was doing, he was in the center of the median. All we could do was watch and wait to see what happened next.

Phil did a great job of keeping it under control and slowed down to about 30 mph and just came right back up on the road after about 300 yards. Once he got back up, we did not stop to check things out till our next gas stop. Nothing was damaged on the bike other than grass getting caught in the plastic.

Most stops were not long. Get gas, do paperwork, grab a drink if needed and restroom if needed. Sometimes we just got gas and did paperwork and took off again.

Gordon did not have a CB so we were sure to ask how he was doing at each stop and also kept an eye on him while riding.

We rode probably 1300 miles (Im not looking at receipts at the moment) well past San Antonio TX and decided to find a rest area. We stopped at a picnic area with a few picnic tables under shelter. Phil and I took out our sleeping bags and laid them down on the concrete. Gordon did not get his out and said that he would just lean against the wall and sleep. I woke up later and he was laying down on his sleeping bag I think.

We slept a bit longer than we wanted to. About two hours!

We hit the road again and stopped later and ate. I think we stopped for about 45 minutes.

Once we got past San Antonio, the landscape did not seem to change a bit. Desert, rocks, sand and mountain ranges. Hot in the day time and cold at night.

The sky was pitch black at night and we saw some brilliant shooting stars. One was so bright that it lite up the landscape. Pretty cool!

We gassed one time not too long after getting into California and the gas was 3.49 for reg. That was ridiculous! Talk about price gouging! The rest of the gas at our stops in California was about normal.

We went through the area where the land was at sea level. I watch my gps and it actually went 3 foot below at one time. Not too long after that, we started going higher in the mountians and the wind became so strong that we had to come to a stop. Gordon's BMW is taller than our Wings and he had a hard time with it. I was blown off the road one time myself onto the shoulder at about 20 mph.

We ended up at an altitude of over 4000 feet and it got cold real quick. That's when I put both my jackets on. As we got closer to where Rocky, Don and Greg were to meet us, we got off on the wrong exit about 3 miles from where they were waiting. A little lack of communication I think, but I was able to talk to them on the phone and CB. We stopped for a few minutes at the wrong exit while Phil and Gordon put on more clothes and I told the guys to just drop down on the interstate as we went by because we wanted to hurry up and get to the ocean and end that part of the trip.

When we met up with them, we were surprised that there were several other Wings in the group to meet us. It gave me chills to see them all coming down the ramp. There were 6 or 7 of them!

Rocky took the lead and took us on a fast ride into San Diego and to a gas stop for gas receipt and to meet everyone in the group and then went to the ocean for paperwork. I got some sand too from the ocean.

Took more pictures and some video and then went to Rocky's house and pigged out on the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. Took shower and hit the sack in his camper. Next thing I knew I was being woke up. I did not want to get up!

Hopped on the bikes and took off again with Rocky leading the way to I-8 at which time he broke off.

The wind was not as bad as it was before going through those mountains and it was not as cold.

We rode about half way back and stopped again at another picnic area and did the sleeping bag thing again. Got about 4 hours sleep and took off again.

I was sick of being on that road and wanted to get the heck out of Texas. It is 880 miles across that state.

When we got to Beaumont, we had traffic back up after traffic back up in several construction sites. It seemed like Texas did not want to let us go.

We got into LA and one time we stopped to get gas (and needed it ) and all the gas stations were destroyed from Katrina. We went to the next exit and two were open on the left side of the interstate.

It is going to be a long time till things get normal around there! Even saw a fishing boat on land.

We finally made it through MS, AL and into FL. Due to all the backups in the construction area, we lost about 3 hours in time. I called John and told him not to worry about meeting us and that we would just go get gas and then come to his house after that because it was going to be so late.

When we got to the beach, we had 2 hours left out of the 100 hours. We got gas at the same place we got it when we started.

When we pulled into Johns neighborhood, my phone rang and it was John asking where we were and I told him we just pulled into his neighborhood.

We got to his house and took some stuff off our bike and I headed to the bedroom and died. A few hours later, I woke up to the smell of eggs cooking. Abby had made a great breakfast! Shortly after that, Phil and Gordon took off to finish their adventure. Mine was done!

I took several more naps and later John and I got in his paddle boat and did some fishing. I caught 3, lost one and he caught 4 and lost a BIG one. It was at least 11 pounds. Gosh he was mad! Me too! John has a new reason to live now! Catch that dang fish!

We later went to a seafood restaurant and had a great meal. I was wanting some seafood real bad!

I decided to leave about 10:30 Saturday morning. We all have an open invitation to go back to Johns and I intend on doing just that soon! Someone has to catch that Bass!

Anyway, got home about 5 hours later and died again. It's Sunday now and I am still not 100% but wanted to get this done and posted.

4,700+ miles in 100 hours is a very tough ride. I really could care less about any paperwork from IBA but it will be nice to have. Just knowing that I was able to pull it off is good enough for me. I have done 2 100/24 rides and did not bother doing paperwork on them for the same reason.

Many have started this ride and did not finish for what ever reasons. Yes, I thought several times to give in, but I am glad I did not.

Would I do it again? HELL NO!!! Hehehehe

Thank you to all involved on each coast! You are all number 1 in my book and great friends to have!

Here are a few random pictures.
