I am a Sergeant with the Kentucky State Police... I was forwarded your site by one of my Troopers and am very impressed. Kentucky State Police is a full service agency and besides handling domestic calls, accidents, robbery, rapes, murders and ect., DUI arrests are one of our biggest priorities. I have been with the state police for 18 years...but prior to this, I was an EMT with an ambulance service. During this, I had the unfortunate task of holding a 22 year old girl while the rescue squad cut her from the vehicle. She was struck head-on by a DUI. I held her until she died and I always said that if I ever became a Trooper, I would put every DUI possible where they belong. I am proud to be able to say that during my career, I have arrested around 2,500 DUIs and have led the state of Kentucky in DUI arrests about 10 different years. I have had many experiences with DUIs, and have never figured out why people don't have better sense. I have some photos that you may like to use, with no names or faces, so identities will not be a problem. Photos labeled DUI 1, DUI 2 and DUI 3 - occurred August 29, 1992 on the Daniel Boone Parkway in southeastern Kentucky. I was 6 miles from the accident and had just arrested another DUI. The DUI was driving the blue colored 1991 Chevrolet and had 2 passengers. The subject was traveling eastbound and was speeding. When he would come upon other vehicles, he would turn off his lights and pass them. The DUI was not familiar with the road and approached a steep curve, he attempted to turn the vehicle back into his lane when he met a 1979 Cadillac traveling westbound. The DUI vehicle began a sideways skid and struck the Cadillac with the left side of his vehicle. Five (5) people died from this accident. The last picture, DUI-Pursuit occurred about in the fall of 1992. The DUI and passengers were attempting to elude a Sheriff Deputy during a pursuit. The subject turned onto a rural road and was traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed a hill-crest and went airborne, striking a tree and overturning. Three subjects were seriously hurt and the DUI was killed (He was 17 years old). If the pictures could help, please fell free to use them.
Yours truly,
Sgt. Steve Walker
