I was looking at the page you have and thought I would send you pictures of the car my son was killed in. He and his girlfriend were on their way to eat dinner at Chi Chi's just before 9:30 when a drunk driver hit them head on. The drunk was in Beau's lane. He never even tried to stop. They think the drunk was going at least 75 mph on a 50 mph road. Beau swerved towards the shoulder and hit his breaks as soon at the drunk popped over the hill in front of him. The police officer said Beau did everything right and everything he could, he just didn't have enough time. The drunk drove through Beau's car until it was pushed to the edge of the road. At that time beau's car was sent airborne and landed 35 feet away on it's roof in a ditch. Beau and Susan had their seat belts on and the car had airbags. Susan was able to get out of the car to try to get help. She had a few bruises and scratches. Beau was trapped in the car for about an hour and a half. He was conscious for most of it.
A man that lived across from where the crash was called 911 and then went to help. He saw the drunk first. I was told the drunk was yelling he was drunk therefore couldn't of been driving. He was pinned in his car in the driver's seat. When the neighbor pointed out there wasn't anyone else around the drunk said he must of been driving then. The neighbor was so mad he had to leave the car before he punched the drunk out while he was trapped in his car. He then went went to down to see if he could help Beau. He couldn't do much but sit with him while they waited for the fire department. Beau was having trouble breathing and couldn't feel his legs. I was told Beau told this man he didn't want to die. I haven't been told the details of getting Beau out of the car but he was trapped and conscious.
A doctor that stopped when he went by the crash scene helped try to keep Beau alive. He decided Beau's only chance was if they sent him to Christiana Hospital in DE even though it wasn't their turn in the rotation. Beau was unconscious by that time. I was told Beau regained consciousness in the ambulance just long enough to tell them his name. He then expired (the way they put it at the hospital). That was around 11 pm. The do not have an exact time of death for him. A friend had me to the hospital but 11:40 pm. (We live about an hour's drive from it) I had been on the phone with the state police dispatcher and he told me as soon as he knew where Beau's was going. I didn't know how bad it was though and it was left to a nurse at the hospital to tell me. all I wanted to do was see my son. We are still waiting for the man to go to court. The most he can get in Maryland is 10 years. He hit and killed Beau less than a half mile from the bar he had left.
Anyway no one would let me see the car. It was my mom's new 1999 Honda CRV. It was less than a year old. The drivers side door stayed attached to the drunk's car when the car's separated. The drunk basically drove through Beau when he drove through the honda. There are so many if's that could of made things different but only one really mattered and that was if the drunk had never gotten into his car Beau would be alive and in college now. Beau was killed two weeks before his high school graduation. He never got to see his diploma.
I'm sorry I just wrote you a book. anyway I am sending what pictures I have of the CRV. A photography student from Beau's school took the pictures of the car at the junk yard it was temporarily stored at. I thank you for doing your web page and posting the pictures you have there. If it stops one person from drinking and driving then maybe it isn't in vain. Thank you again for doing something constructive.
