The Lanett Police Department is in the Lanett City Hall Building located at 401 N. Lanier Ave. in Lanett Alabama.
Our Dept. consists of the Chief, Major, Lieutenants, Sergeants, Officers, Detectives, Dispatchers, Animal Control Officer, and Police Clerk.
Normal patrol consists of 1 Lieutenant who is the supervisor of the shift, 1 Sergeant who takes over the as shift supervisor when the Lieutenant is absent, and 2 officers. We work 12 hour shifts which start at 7:00 working 4 days in a row and then having 4 days off in a row. Payday is every Friday. That causes us to be paid 4, 48 hour checks and 4, 36 hours checks due to the pay period starting on Monday at 8:00am. Example: If we start our 4 days working on Monday, we work till Thursday. Thats 48 hours per shift in that pay week. The next week we will come in on Tuesday and work till Friday and so on getting 48 hour checks till we come in on Friday and work 4 days ending on Monday. We only had 36 hours in that one pay week. We will continue that till we get back into 48 hours in a pay week again. Make sense? It averages out to be 42 hours a week so they say. Course we do get overtime now and then for such things as court, class, filling in for an absent officer and so forth.
We have three detectives, two Project officers, one animal control officer that work normal hours along with the Chief and Major. Most of the officers like the 4 and 4, so we don't complain too much.
We have one Dare officer who works regular patrol.
Our patrol units are Ford Crown Victoria's equiped with Video and audio systems (Eagle Eye, Docucam, and Alpha Cam) which are used on every call and traffic stops. They are very nice to have especially for court purposes. They dont lie! That goes for the officer too. If we make a mistake, its also caught on video. Some dont like them, but if you dont screw up, you have nothing to be afraid of. They can be your best friend, or your worst enemy. Its up to you.
Our units are also equiped with Wheeling bar lights, and several different brand names of radios and sirens.
