Deputy Windsor had been with the agency for only 4 months.
I don't know how long he had to wait. The drunk had left the party and was coming back and was supposedly having an argument with his girlfriend and driving approximately 85 mph. There was a slight curve to the left after you come off a bridge and Mark was backed into the drive just past the curve.
The driver left the road in the curve and never touched the brakes, striking the patrol car in the drivers door. The coroner said that it broke Mark's neck and that he didn't have to suffer.
The small amount of blood on the airbag was all that was in the car.The driver was sentenced to 15 years and served less than 5 because of the "good behavior" law.
He got three days taken off his sentence for every one day of good behavior. So much for justice. If they had sentenced him to 15 years and 1 day, he would have to serve all of it. I remember hearing that he drank 15 beers that he REMEMBERED and there is no telling what else he had. His mom worked for the Ga. State Patrol and his dad worked for the GBI, so that ought to explain alot if you know what I mean.
Mark had a wife (of less than a year) June Windsor and a step-son, Cody.
Mark was my twin brother. He came to me one day when my son was young and told me that he wanted to serve as a reserve officer with the Sherrifs Dept. so that he could help protect my kids and others from this terrible world that we live in. The part that wasn't mentioned in his biography was the fact that he served as a reserve for several years before the S.O. sent him to the academy. He also served as a jailer and a dispatcher. I guess the only thing that gets his family through each day is the fact that he died doing what he loved to do. Mark we love you and miss you very much.
